The Anti – An Unusual Way to be Great

Now, this is something unusual… something different. It’s not the usual advice to dream big or shoot for the stars; and I think that this works wonders for those struggling to keep going.

Let me tell you this from personal experience: when someone is in survival mode, telling them to “shoot for the moon and if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” doesn’t work. Period.

When waking up every day is a task in itself, you generally don’t have the motivation or the energy to “go out there and get it!”

But you gotta do what you gotta do, right? You gotta earn your bread. And some people even want to achieve success in their lifelong dreams, but life just got in the way!

No worries! I got you covered.

We’ll apply what I like to call “The Anti.”

It’s a reverse take on motivation—reverse psychology, if you will. I’ve applied it, and it works.

It’s based on a very simple fact: a lot of people want to do everything perfectly. (Which is why we kind of landed in this pickle—I’m saying this as a doctor. Perfectionism is one of the common reasons why a lot of people are stressed out, which can ultimately lead to anxiety disorders and depression. So, let’s get this one off your plate, shall we?)

What to do?

BE AVERAGE.

I know, I know. This goes against every fiber of your being. And honestly, who aims to be average?

But hear me out. Don’t strive for reaching the ultimate level. Don’t strive to be the best. Don’t strive to get the prize. Just don’t.

What your body and mind need right now is self-belief. Yes, to BELIEVE.

You have driven your poor mind into so much self-doubt, not because you are at fault, but because you keep raising the bar of your standards every time you are close to achieving something, which is why you feel like you are never successful. And that is not true! You are already so much better than the average person! Because people don’t even try!

So, in all this drama, you have kind of lost belief in yourself. Plus, you also need to take it easy now until your mind heals.

This is the way to build it back up. Try to actively be average.

  • Just take a single baby step. And be proud of it.
  • Just work on one thing in one day. Only one thing. Don’t be your old self and try to work on 20 different goals.
  • And don’t have more than 2–3 goals at a time. I would suggest only having at most 2 goals at once—just so you don’t get bored. Complete them and then move on to the next ones.
  • Don’t multitask. Just don’t. You may be used to being hyper-productive. But don’t do it.
  • CELEBRATE EVERYTHING—even something as tiny as “I laughed today.”
  • STOP with the self-guilt! Why are you even feeling guilty?! None of this is your fault! In fact, kudos to you that you are here, trying to do everything you can to pull yourself back up!
  • Don’t try to be the best at everything. BE AVERAGE. The very first step to being great is to do the basics.

Let me explain something to you: right now, you need to get into the habit of showing up. That itself is going to be a big task for you. (Saying this from personal experience.) So, the added pressure of “being great”? Don’t need that.

Now, here’s the twist.

This method indirectly gets your brain in the groove to becoming excellent. How?

Because the quality is there in you! Just because you’ve hit a little snag right now doesn’t mean you are a failure! Every person has it in them to excel at what they are passionate about!

You just need a teensy bit of support right now to get back on track. And this is the way to do it!

Because let’s be real… When have you stopped at ‘average’ before, am I right? But don’t force it though! Let it take its own course! We’re not racing anyone.

And even if you have been the average kid all your life… Who says this won’t be your big break? You never know where life may take you, because did you expect to be in this situation today? I’m guessing not! And you know how they say,

“Sher jab do kadam peeche leta hai toh iska ye matlab nahi ki woh darr gaya, iska matlab ye hai ki woh lambi chalaang lagane wala hai!”

(A lion takes two steps back to take a big leap forward, not because he’s afraid!)

And you, my friend, are a SHER!

Every word in this article I have said from personal experience. I have FELT every single thing I’m talking about here, and I have applied this exact method. Trust me, it works. It really does. This is exactly how I was able to start this blog. And blogging is not even the main benefit! I was able to wake up every day HAPPY! I got a sense of purpose again! I didn’t dread living. I wasn’t in survival mode anymore. And I am so thankful to myself that I kept going. You got this too <3.
